Bruce Johnson

UNL Professor, Department of Agricultural Economics

Bruce Johnson is a professor of Agricultural Economics at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln. Dr. Johnson received his B.S. in Mechanized Agriculture from the University of Nebraska in 1966, his M.S. in Agricultural Economics from the University of Nebraska in 1968 and his Ph. D. in Agricultural Economics from Michigan State University in 1975. Before returning to the University of Nebraska as a professor, Dr. Johnson worked as an agricultural economist for the Economic Research Services of the USDA.

As a professor at the University of Nebraska, Dr. Johnson teaches classes on natural resources and environmental economics, agricultural real estate appraisal, rural community economics, and ethics in agricultural and natural resources. In the classroom, Dr Johnson’s teaching philosophy is to provide an environment for learning in which each student has the opportunity and encouragement to reach their maximum potential.

Dr. Johnson’s teaching interests are reflected in his research activities, which include monitoring and analyzing farm real estate market conditions, retailing patterns, structural changes within the food and agricultural sector, and the role of social capital in economic-decision making. In 1999, he was given the Distinguished Service Award from the Nebraska Chapter of the American Society of Farm Managers and Rural Appraisers. In 2001, the UNL College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources honored him with the Distinguished Teaching Award, and he received the Golden Quill Award for outstanding journal article from the American Society of Farm Mangers and Rural Appraisers in 2004.
